Madurai
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attacked the Congress over the terror attacks during its regime and claimed that the NDA’s policy has halted such attacks.
A vote for DMK, Congress and Muslim League combine would lead to higher taxes and less development and give a free hand to terrorists and rise of criminal elements in politics, he alleged at a campaign rally inRamanathapuram.
“When Congress and its allies were in power, terrorists attacked the nation regularly and blasts occurred in city after city, but Congress remained helpless and silent,” he said.
He added, “Time has changed now as India would not spare a single terrorist or jihadi. If they dare to attack us we will find them from wherever they are and ruin their happiness.”
Modi said in our Sankalp Patra (BJP’s manifesto), the party has talked about doubling port capacity in the coming five years.
He said that after May 23, when the Modi government would once again assume office, there will be a separate ministry for Jal Shakti (fisheries). Modi added that the ‘kisan card’ facility would also be extended to fishermen.
Modi claimed that construction of fishing harbours at Mookaiyur in Ramnad and Poompuhar in Nagapattinam are underway at record pace.
Earlier, at a rally in Theni, Modi said the BJP would conserve River Vaigai on par with River Ganga as it is aware of the problems that farmers are facing in irrigation.
He added through the Centre’s scheme, a sum of Rs 4,000 crore is being provided to lakhs of farmers in Tamil Nadu. While many farmers have received the first installment directly into their bank accounts, the second installment is underway, he added.
The demandfor revival of Madurai–Bodi train, which has remained unfulfilled for decades, would be fulfilled soon to benefit the people of Theni, and gauge conversion works were progressing rapidly, he said. Besides, Karur-Trichy track would be electrified, he added.
Modi said expansion workat Madurai airport is progressing rapidly.
Takes a dig atCongress-DMK alliance
Modi fired a salvo at the Congress, DMK and their “mahamilawat” alliance. “The alliance has no vision or mission for the nation. Their only glue is hatred for Modi,” he said.
He added, “In the process of hating Modi, the Opposition has begun to hate India.
“We are moving forward with a dream of ‘New India’, where everyone from soldiers to farmers can lead a life with security, prosperity and dignity,” Modi said at an earlier rally in Theni.
Modi said that for the prosperity of Tamil Nadu and Tamil brothers in Sri Lanka, “the game of DMK-Congress must end and dynastic rule of corrupt families must also end”.
Modi said in Kerala, Congress, Communists and Muslim League are playing a “dangerous” game regarding Sabarimala temple.
“They are using brute force to strike at the root of faith and aspiration. Sadly for them till BJP is there, no one will be able to destroy our faith and culture,” he said.
Blaming the DMK, Congress and Muslim League for vote bank politics in opposing a Bill on abolishing Triple Talaq in Parliament, Modi said, “These parties do not believe in dignity of women.”
Invokes the late Dr Kalam
Invoking the late President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, Modi said, “It’s our duty today to fulfill his dreams and take India to new heights of growth and glory.” He added, “Dr Kalam would have been delighted on the recent success of Mission Shakti.”
“India is one, our diversity is our strength. There’s unity and diversity in our nation and NDA’s approach is of cooperative and competitive federalism,” he added.
Modi also termed late chief ministers M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa as “iconic leaders” who India is proud of.
