Till this academic year, supplementary exams for Class 9 students were conducted only in September or October. Accordingly, students who did not clear the public exam which is held in April, would reattempt it in June. Even if students failed then, they had another chance in September.

A senior official from the Directorate of Examinations told DT Next on Tuesday that conducting instantaneous exams in June would help even the academically bright students, who could not appear due to health issues. “We also received several requests from the parent-teachers’ association to conduct re-exam for Class 9 in June itself,” he said. According to the official, the June supplementary exams are conducted for Class 10, 11 and 12 students. He said the management of all schools, including private institutions across the State, were instructed to prepare the failed list immediately after the results get announced in the first week of May.

“The list of candidates who failed in the exams should have to be uploaded immediately in the Educational Management Information System portal, specifically launched for the schools”, the official said.

He said the school management would also help students fill the forms for re-exams online once a notification was issued. “The hall ticket could be downloaded within a few days of the applications being uploaded,” he said, adding, the entire process would be over two weeks after the results.

The official said that the government has taken steps in setting up examination centres in a short period of time, which will help authorities conduct exams in the first week of June. “Candidates who fail in more than one exam will also be allowed to take all their supplementary exams in June,” he added.
