Ex-MLA, wife killed in accident

The deceased were identified Sundaravel (71), who served as an AIADMK MLA between 1991 and 1996 and was currently associated with the AMMK, his wife Vijayalakshmi (65) and car driver Veeramani, a resident of Tirupattur. The couple were bound for Chennai from their native Tirupattur.

At Vinnmangalam near Ambur, driver Veeramani lost control of the vehicle while attempting to overtake the lorry and the car slid under the lorry.

In the impact, all three occupants of the car were crushed to death on the spot. The car was dragged by the lorry for nearly 25 metres before it came to a halt.

On receipt of information, Ambur taluk police rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations. Being unable to recover the bodies of the deceased victims, the police sought the help of the local fire service personnel, who brought a crane and pulled the car from under the lorry.

The bodies of the three deceased victims were sent to Ambur government hospital for post-mortem examination.

Ambur taluk police have registered a case in this connection and investigation is on.
