Police said that Janaki (83), wife of Ganapathy of SN Palayam, was living alone near an irrigation tank at Agaramcheri, as her four sons and daughter were residing in different areas.

Her son Vajravel who lived nearby raised cows on the land that Janaki owned. When Vajravel went to Janaki’s house to milk the cows, he found the woman missing. When he, along with his friend Arumugam, searched for her, they found Janaki dead with her head smashed by a stone. A 5-sovereign gold chain which she wore was missing while all articles in the house were scattered.

An anguished Vajravel informed the Pallikonda police who registered a case and sent the body to the Vellore government medical college hospital for post mortem. As a youth who was living in a nearby house was missing, the police are on the lookout for him, suspecting that he could be linked to the murder.
