Canvassing for the BJP’s Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency candidate H Raja, Palaniswami said the people could get welfare schemes without any hassle only when a stable government was formed at the Centre.

Taking a dig at the DMK-Congress combine, he termed the opposition front as an “opportunistic alliance” for Parliamentary polls.

Targeting senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, whose son (Karti Chidambaram) is the rival for BJP candidate in Sivaganga, the Chief Minister said the former finance minister did nothing for the people of Sivaganga, who made him their MP, despite being a Union Minister during the UPA government.

“When Chidambaram himself has not delivered the goods, how can his son Karti, fulfil the needs of the people of Sivaganga?”

Speaking in favour of Raja, Palaniswami said the people of Sivaganga have got an opportunity to elect the best and talented candidate, who will ensure all round growth in the constituency.

Making a scathing attack on DMK president M K Stalin, the CM claimed that the Opposition Leader wanted to come to power through the backdoor. “He does not know the difficulties faced by the people. His dream of toppling the AIADMK regime after the demise of Jayalalithaa did not fructify,” Palaniswami said, expressing confidence that his party would complete its full term till 2021.

Listing out the projects implemented in Sivaganga, the CM said the ‘Teppakulam’ was linked to the Periyar river after a long gap of 33 years.

He also campaigned for AIADMK’s Manamadurai Assembly bypoll candidate Nagarajan.

Campaigning at Ettayapuram for P Chinnappan, the AIADMK candidate for Vilathikulam Assembly constituency, late on Tuesday, Palaniswami said his government would set up a food park at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore near Chennai, which would benefit farmers in ten districts in the first phase. As the park would have adequate cold storage facilities, farmers can store their produces and sell it at a time when they get good price.
