Sit-in strike delays long distance buses
Buses from Gudiyattam bound for long distance destinations, including Chennai and Tambaram, were held up after members of various trade unions staged a sit-in strike at the Gudiyattam TNSTC depot in the early hours of Tuesday.
Vellore
The depot has 83 buses attached to it. The staff, especially the drivers, were agitated as the management had suddenly increased their daily trips from 550 kilometres to 600 kilometres.
Their another concern was about being marked absent even when they interchanged duty with their colleagues. As their repeated pleas fell on deaf ears, they staged a sit in demonstration in the depot between 3 am and 4.30 am.
Due to this, 11 buses bound for long distance destinations were unable to leave the depot.
Following receipt of information, senior officials from Vellore rushed to the spot and held talks with the demonstrators.
Finally, the employees were convinced into calling off the agitations at 4.30 am and normality was restored.
