CB-CID to quiz Nakkheeran Gopal on April 1
In a partial relief for Tamil magazine editor Nakkheeran R Gopal regarding the release of the video in the Pollachi sexual assault case, the Madras High Court conceded to his plea for appearing before CB-CID in Chennai instead of Coimbatore fearing his safety, but refused to accept the request to allow his counsel to accompany him during interrogation.
Chennai
Justice G K Ilanthirayan, before whom the plea moved by Gopal seeking to quash the summons came on Friday, directed the CB-CID to hold the inquiry at its office in Guindy on April 1. The judge held that the counsel’s assistance as sought for was not granted and the direction to Gopal to appear in Chennai was being done owing to his apprehension that AIADMK leader Pollachi Jayaraman’s supporters may attack him. However, the court would not interfere with the police investigation, the judge added.
Earlier, public prosecutor A Natarjan vehemently opposed admitting the quash petition and sought the court to direct Gopal to appear before CB-CID and cooperate with the investigation. He also submitted that changing the venue of interrogation would set a bad precedence, as the whole team from Coimbatore must come to Chennai for the sake of an individual.
