    Anna University’s aerospace team gets world recognition

    The world record attempt made by Anna University’s aerospace research team for making an unmanned vehicle to hover maximum time in the sky was recognised by Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the world governing body for air sports based in Switzerland.

    The world record initiative of long endurance hovering of Multirotor UAV indigenously developed by Centre for Aerospace Research (CASR) of Anna University was held on July 18, 2018, in the Sports Complex of College of Engineering. The event which ran successfully witnessed the Multirotor UAV achieving a duration of 6 hours 7 minutes and 45 seconds. The evidence and claims of the records were submitted to FAI by officials of Aero Club of India, New Delhi.


    The event was witnessed by Governor of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit, and Dr MK Surappa, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University. The world record was carried out under the umbrella of Federation Aeronautique Internationale where the initiative was monitored by Aero Club of India (ACI), National Air Sport Control. Representatives of FAI was the jury.


    After eight months of due deliberation and scrutinisation of the record and evidence, the FAI has declared the World Record for Long Duration of Multirotor UAV in the 5 to 25 kg category.


    The record is first of its kind. FAI has recognized the team centre for Aerospace Research, MIT Campus, Anna University, as the bearer of the world record. Also, Aero Club of India has recognised and acknowledged CASR as the bearer of national record in the duration category of Multirotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.
