‘Rahul’s scheme a surgical strike on poverty’

Claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had allotted Rs 3.5 lakh crore to provide financial concessions through banks to 15 businessmen in the country, Alagiri said Rahul’s announcement which assured Rs 72,000 per annum to five crore families would help eradicate poverty in the country.

Remarking that people would secure the right to minimum wages, the state Congress president quoted Rahul who said the scheme would require 3.6 lakh crore in total and Rs 1.8 lakh crore in the first year. Alagiri said Rahul has announced the poverty alleviation scheme after the Modi regime failed miserably in eradicating poverty. Asserting that the 100-day employment scheme had rejuvenated rural economy and increased the spending capacity of village people, Alagiri alleged that the ruling BJP had reduced the average employment period was reduced from 100 to 45 days, failing miserably in poverty alleviation.

Recalling the various schemes introduced during the previous UPA tenure, Alagiri said that Rahul has launched his final assault on poverty, and it was sure to win the confidence of the voters. The Congress has deputed its former union minister P Chidambaram to detail the scheme’s viability at the State party headquarters here on Wednesday.
