Pollachi assault case accused surrenders in Coimbatore court

Special teams of police were on a search for Manivannan, who went into hiding a month ago.

Two days after the victim lodged a complaint at the Pollachi East police station, Nagaraj, Senthil, Vasantha Kumar, Manivannan and Babu intercepted the victim’s brother, who was on a two-wheeler on February 26, and threatened his life to withdraw the police case.

Based on a complaint from the victim’s brother, the police registered a case and arrested four persons. While Manivannan from Achipatty went into hiding and a search was on to nab him.

Manivannan, who surrendered before the court, was remanded in judicial custody for 15 days and was lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.

In another development, the bail plea of five persons — Sathish (31), Suresh (31), Vijayakumar (23), Ganesh (23) and Marimuthu (24) — hailing from Pollachi, who were arrested for ransacking a bar presuming it to be owned by Nagaraj, was dismissed by the court.

Meanwhile, the court also extended the judicial custody of sexual assault accused Sabarirajan (25), Sathish (27) and Vasantha Kumar (24) on Monday. A video conference were facilitated for them from the Coimbatore Central Prison considering security risks.

The accused trapped the young women, sexually abused and videographed the act to extort money. The incident came to light after one of the victims lodged a complaint and police inquiries revealed that the gang abused many women in a similar way.
