Over 400 file papers across state
The poll scenario in the State gained momentum on Monday with more than 400 candidates queuing up at the office of district election officers and returning officers to file their nominations.

“Till now, 604 nominations have been received for the Lok Sabha polls while 18 assembly seats saw 230 nominations. So far, 545 men, 85 women and two from the third gender have filed their papers,” Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo told reporters.
According to poll officials, the Perambur assembly seat had registered the maximum number of entries with 36 candidates while constituencies like Poonamallee and Manamadurai had lesser number of applicants till Monday, sources said.
With Tuesday being the last date for filing papers, chief electoral officer had instructed all the district Collectors to facilitate the process of filing nominations. “All the candidates, who report to the respective returning officer before 3 pm, will be considered for the filing of nominations for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. ECI has instructed not to allow more than five people at the time of nominations,” an informed official said.
Grounds for rejection, considering a substitute over the main candidate and other aspects were taught for those were posted for the scrutiny of applications, which will begin on Wednesday.
The surveillance in the State will be further enhanced from Tuesday with the arrival of the police and general observers, Election Department sources said.
