Trial run held between Tiruchy and Thanjavur
The Southern Railways conducted a trial run on Saturday after completing the electrification in the 50-km stretch between Tiruchy and Thanjavur. It was inspected by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), KA Manoharan.

The Rs 250 crore project involves conversion to broad-gauge and electrification work between Tiruchy and Karaikal. A 25 kv substation was established at Thanjavur for electrification.
At 3.30 pm on Saturday, the trial run was held, which was inspected by railway officials including CSR K A Manoharan, DRM (Tiruchy) Udayakumar Reddy. Speaking to the press, SRM (Thanajvur) Rajasekaran said now that the double line electrification between Tiruchy and Thanjavur was over, the travel time would be reduced to 35 minutes from the present 45 minutes for superfast trains, and 55 minutes for passenger trains.
“Regular service would commence after 20 days of trial run,” he said, and added that the trains from Ernakulam, Mysore and Coimbatore would run up toThanjavur in the electrified line.
