The first and foremost issue that AIADMK coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam chose to address in his first campaign speech was defending his son’s foray into the electoral battle.

Dismissing various criticisms of ‘heir politics’, the deputy CM said that there no law against dynastic politics and anybody could contest in the polls if people were ready to accept them.

Ahead of launching the campaign for his son Ravindranath Kumar, the AIADMK candidate for Theni Lok Sabha constituency, he offered prayers at a temple near Palamedu in Madurai on Wednesday.

Talking to the mediapersons, Panneerselvam said that all members of AIADMK have a right to contest the polls and everyone would be given an opportunity.

Terming the manifesto released by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami as a route for economic growth, he said that the promises made by the AIADMK would enhance the social security of the people.

Denying charges of intra-party fight, he said that there was smooth and cordial relationship between all the workers.

When his attention was drawn to Raja Kannappan switching sides to the DMK, Panneerselvam said that he should think about his past. “It is nothing new with Raja Kannappan, who has switched parties on several occasions earlier,” he said.

Expressing confidence that all the candidates of the AIADMK front would win, the deputy CM said, “AIADMK founded by former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran is a mass movement with a loyal cadre base. The AIADMK-led front would get a massive mandate in all the constituencies,” he said.

Later, Ravindranath along with party cadre launched his poll campaign in parts of Theni and canvassed votes.
