Opposition parties on Monday found fault with an AIADMK MLA in Tirupur district for inspecting some of the ongoing infrastructure development works in violation of poll code of conduct.

Raising the issue at an all-party meeting in Tirupur on Monday, the CPM district working committee member N Gopalakrishnan blamed Palladam AIADMK MLA A Natrajan for inspecting a slew of ongoing infrastructure development works in his constituency in violation of poll code of conduct.
On March 14, the MLA inspected the storm water drainage works, construction of a new building for Palladam Government Arts and Science College besides Mettupalayam combined drinking water scheme in the 4th ward of his Palladam constituency. It was alleged that the MLA was accompanied by panchayat officials.
The CPM functionary queried why no action has been initiated against the MLA for inspecting the developmental works even after the announcement of poll dates.
Faulting the district election officials of not initiating any action, Gopalakrishnan said that he would raise the issue with the state election commission.
However, the District Revenue Officer R Sugumar said that he had not received any complaint on this issue. He also promised to take up the issue with official’s in-charge of the election wing.
Responding to the allegation, MLA A Natrajan said that he was going by the way, when he just stopped over to take a look. “They were all ongoing works and not new projects. I didn’t go there for an inspection but just made a halt while passing through the way. I will henceforth not even visit places of such works,” he said to media.
