Girl commits suicide, relatives block road demanding boyfriend's arrest

According to the police, the deceased, Vaishnavi (20), daughter of Kamalanathan of Moolagate, was studying at a private arts college in Vellore. She was in love with Sukumar (26), who hails from a locality near Anaicut. After Sukumar’s parents came to know about their relationship, they approached Vaishnavi’s family seeking her hand in marriage for their son. But the girl’s parents suggested that the couple wait till Vaishnavi completed her studies.

Meanwhile, Sukumar got a job with the CRPF following which he moved out of the town. After a few days, his parents arranged his marriage with another girl and the engagement took place a week ago. Vaishnavi was reportedly upset over the turn of events. As she did not get up in the morning two days ago, she was rushed to the Vellore Government Medical College Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Vaishnavi’s relatives immediately lodged a complaint with the police that she died as Sukumar decided to marry another girl. After post-mortem was conducted, her body was handed over to the family. Following this, they blocked the road near Moolagate demanding Sukumar’s arrest. Soon, the police rushed to the spot and held talks with the girl’s relatives.
