Flying squad seize 1.24 kg gold from car in Sirkazhi
The flying squad personnel seized 1.24 kg gold jewels worth Rs 31 lakh, which was being transported without relevant documents, near Sirkazhi in Nagapattinam district on Friday.

Sources said the Static Surveillance Team (SST) stopped an SUV with a Puducherry registration number near the Soorakadu Bridge for a routine checking. Upon searching the vehicle, the officials found the gold ornaments kept inside.
The car occupants said that they were transporting the gold from their shop in Puducherry to their branch in Karaikal. Since they did not possess valid documents to support their claim, the officials seized the valuables and deposited it in the treasury office in Sirkazhi.
Elsewhere, Rs 3.50 lakh in cash was seized by the flying squad in two separate incidents in Karur. The team intercepted a vehicle driven by S Sivakumar (40), a resident of Sempadampalayam. He was carrying Rs 1.6 lakh in cash, that exceeded the permitted limit, without proper documents. In the second incident, a team led by co-operative society sub registrar R Kumar seized Rs 1.92 lakh from a businessman in Marudhur on Thursday night. The money was handed over to the Kulithalai RDO.
Nearly 250 flying squads have been formed in Vellore district to ensure that poll code is strictly followed. The officials are undertaking random vehicle checks. On Friday, officials stopped a speeding car near the Arabic college at Pakkam on the Gudiyattam – Chittoor road. They seized Rs 3.19 lakh in cash kept inside.
