Couple die in a bus accident near Sathankulam

According to reports, a 52-year-old man Thangaraj and his 47-year-old wife Jakkamal passed away on Thursday after their bike was rammed by a bus in Pudhukulam panchayat office, Sathankulam.

Thangaraj, who was caught under the wheels of the bus was crushed to death whereas Jakkamal was severely injured.

The bus driver fled the scene after the incident happened. The onlookers informed the Sathankulam police about the accident and police rushed to the spot and admitted Jakkamal in Sathankulam Government hospital who was later shifted to Tirunelveli Government hospital for further treatment but in vain.

A police case was filed and the CCTV footages of Ittamozhi, Sathankulam were examined to identify the bus driver.

The Ittamozhi main road has colleges and government offices but it has always been an accident prone zone. An average of 10 people die in various road accidents in the place.

Hence there has been a raising demand for speed breakers, neon lights and warning boards installed with immediate effect.
