Speaking to reporters, Sivarasu said, “As many as 186 micro observers will be assigned. Also, 153 locations will have an exclusive video recording facility. Surveillance teams will also be posted in these places. This is in addition to the live-webcasting for the Election Commission.”
When asked about the electoral roll, Sivarasu said, “Of the total 37,740 applicants who had submitted forms for inclusion, deletion and correction, 80 per cent of the applications have been processed.” He assured that the remaining work would be completed before the announcement of draft electoral roll.
Of the 9 Assembly constituencies in the district, the collector explained that four would come under the Perambalur LS constituency, while one would come under the Karur parliamentary constituency. The remaining four Assembly segments will be covered by the Tiruchy parliamentary constituency.
He also briefed the reporters on the measures taken by the surveillance and security team, which would look into violations if any of the Election Commission’s Moral Code of Conduct.
Sivarasu announced that three flying squads and three static surveillance teams will monitor each of the nine Assembly constituencies in Tiruchy.
“They will be deployed round-the-clock in three 8-hour shifts,” he said, adding that checkposts are also in place to prevent the transportation of undocumented money or items of value by people.
