A joint initiative by the Union Railway and Tourism Ministries, authorities have widened the approach road, thereby making it easier for passengers to access the station.

The original concourse area, which had limited space and a narrow entry to the main platform, has been expanded. An enquiry counter has been set up to help visitors. Furthermore, the number of catering stalls at the station has been increased. Existing stalls have been refurbished.

A plastic bottle dispenser facility was also installed on the station premises, while the district administration has donated two battery-operated cars to help ferry passengers. The station has also got a new cloak room.

In order to showcase the local cultural heritage, ‘Amar Chitra Katha’ has painted two murals on the walls. While the first one depicted the life of former President Abdul Kalam, who was native to the coastal town, the second mural was inspired by Ramayana.

A Anwar Raja, Ramanathapuram Member of Parliament, inaugurated the facility on Saturday in the presence of Neenu Ittyerah, Divisional Railway Manager (Madurai), O P Shaw, Additional Divisional Railway Manager and K Veera Raghava Rao, Ramanathapuram Collector.
