Woman steals male baby from Pollachi GH
A seven-day old male baby was stolen by a woman from a couple in Pollachi Government Hospital on Sunday. Police said Devi, 30, wife of Balan, 40, a daily wager from Narikalpathi village near Anaimalai had delivered the baby normally on the night of April 29 at the government hospital.

“Only Balan was assisting his wife in the hospital. Meanwhile a 45-year-old woman befriended Devi and came forward to help her in taking care of the baby. The culprit gained her confidence by staying with them for the last five days during nights alone,” police said.
Police said Devi was preparing to go home after being discharged from hospital on Sunday afternoon. Then, the unknown woman claimed to show the baby to a skin doctor for rashes in the feet. But she left the hospital with the baby.
After waiting for a long time, Balan and his wife searched around the hospital in vain. It was then they realized that the woman had stolen away their baby.
On receiving information, the Pollachi East police rushed to the spot and checked the CCTV images to find the woman leaving the hospital with the baby.
The police tracked the auto, in which she left the hospital, and its driver claimed to have dropped her at the Pollachi Old Bus stand. A special team has been formed to nab theculprit and further investigations are on.
