Collector: All arrangements in place, Vellore poll-ready
Vellore district is ready to conduct the parliamentary elections any time as all measures are taken, Collector SA Raman informed on Saturday.

He said that 39 flying squads and 39 static observer teams were ready to monitor and added that 13 audit teams and 13 assistant expenditure observer teams would help the squads. Programmes on using Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) were conducted for public, he said. The district has 8660 ballot units, 4660 control units and 4449 VVPATs, he added.
Additional EVMs, control units and VVPATs from Kanchipuram were procured and are being checked by Bharat Electronics Limited, Raman added. The authority has trained 16,949 government officials for duty, he said. The district has 15, 61, 446 women and 15, 07, 187 men, he said. The district has 3543 polling booths in 1648 polling centres. However, after instructions to bifurcate polling booths with more than 1400 voters, 20 booths were added in 8 centres, Raman said.
