    Class XI students confused over new board exam pattern

    Over 8.2 lakh Class XI students from more than 7,200 schools in Tamil Nadu will be appearing for board exams starting today. This assumes significance as the students will be writing the exam for the first time under the new syllabus. Though the government released model question papers for all the subjects last month, it seems like students have no clue about the paper pattern.

    “If it is an old syllabus, we will be having a number of model question papers as well as question banks. However, we got only couple of model papers and we are not clear about the kind of questions we will be asked,” said K Santhosh Kumar, a class XI student from a private school in Pallavaram.


    Students from both the Science and Commerce departments were worried if the examination will be difficult. They claimed that portions in the new syllabus was tougher when compared to the old curriculum. K Vasanth, a Science student said, “The final practical examination that was held recently was difficult.”


    Meanwhile, the government deployed 4,000 flying squad to monitor the examination proceedings. Sources from the Directorate told DT Next that in Chennai alone a total of 47,305 class XI students will appear for the board exams, which will be held in 156 exam centres.


    A senior official from the Directorate said, “Controller of exams will monitor all the activities at the Chennai headquarters. Inspection will be carried out at all examination centres across the state on Tuesday to check on the facilities provided to the students.” The SchoolEducation Department also set up exam control rooms in all the districts.

    Class XIIlanguage paper tough, say students


    The Class XII board examinations kicked off on Tuesday with the language paper. The students stated that the paper was a touch English one. Most of them opined that the one-word questions, for a total mark of 20, was very difficult. However, the student said other sections of the paper was easier. Sources from Directorate of Examinations claimed that there were no questions that was out of syllabus. Three students were held across the state for indulging in malpractices during the examination. The next examination is scheduled to be held on Thursday.
