School probed for ‘communal’ admission
A day after a private school in Coimbatore was caught in a controversy over its notice announcing admissions only to students of a particular community, the Chief Educational Officer (CEO) P Ayyannan held an inquiry at the institution on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, after an inquiry, the CEO said that the school has admitted 46 to 49 per cent of students from a particular community over the last three years. “Yet students from other communities have also been enrolled. The school management has given an apology letter with regard to the present controversy. It is not correct for the school to stick a notice announcing LKG admissions only for a particular community. I will be sending a report to the state government for further action,” he said.
District education officials took up the issue after School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan ordered a probe. Shocked parents of children also raised a hue and cry over such open religious discrimination practiced by the school.
However, authorities from the school maintained that students from all communities are studying in the school. “Since public exams are under way, we decided to avoid the heavy rush by giving separate days for admissions. There is no other hidden intention,” defended a senior official of the school.
