He also asked the Union Minister to replace him with a Tamil scholar, who has a deep understanding and proficiency of the language.
Stalin said the BJP-led Central government, which had conferred Padma Vibushan award on Nagaswamy, has attempted to insult classical Tamil by offering a position in CICT to the archaeologist, who was drawing the attention of the BJP and communal forces by belittling Tamil and Tamil culture. Alleging that Nagaswamy had belittled Tirukkural by claiming that it had originated from the Vedas, Stalin sought to know how a person, who continuously engages in a malicious campaign claiming that only Sanskrit and Vedas belong to Tamil Nadu without any evidence, could impartially select theawardees. Welcoming the appointment of former Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalswami as the committee head and Marudachalam Adigalaar as its member, Stalin wondered how a person belittling Tamil and glorifying Vedas and Sanskrit could be appointed as a member of the same panel.
He also added that CM Edappadi K Palaniswami was betraying Tamil by remaining a mute spectator to Nagaswamy’s appointment just for the sake of preventing an acrimony in its alliance with the BJP.
