Recalling that from 2004 to 2014, there were several terror attacks, Modi said people expected to punish those responsible for such acts of terrorism, but nothing happened.

There was a time when the Indian Air Force personnel wanted to launch surgical strike after the 26/11 attack, but the UPA government blocked it. “But, today we are in an era where the news read Armed forces have full freedom to do what they want,” he said.

“Our brave soldiers retaliated well in the Uri sector and in the aftermath of Pulwama terror attack. I salute those who are serving the nation. Their vigilance keeps out nation secure,” Modi said.  He also hit out at critics for suspecting the Armed Forces.

Stating that the NDA government is more sensitive to the safety of fishermen, Modi said due to sustainable diplomatic efforts, over 1,900 fishermen, who were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy since May 2014, had been released by the Lankan authorities. But, the previous government came to garner votes without doing anything for the fishermen, he added. The Centre has released funds of Rs 300 crore for construction of deep sea fishing vessels in Tamil Nadu. Navic, a navigation device with the support of ISRO, was launched not only to provide details of fishing grounds, but also on weather warning to safeguard the fishermen, he said. Further, he informed that construction of fishing harbours in Mookaiyur in Ramnad and in Nagapattinam districts were almost over.

In the first meeting after aligning with the AIADMK in the state, Prime Minister Modi also slammed the DMK by citing the corruption cases against the party.
