The DMDK, a significant player in the State politics, is yet to announce its decision on allying with other parties as its leaders were involved in talks with both the DMK and AIADMK.

According to party sources, the talks with the DMK has failed as the DMDK did not get the number of seats that it wanted. Hence, there was an expectation that it would gravitate towards the AIADMK.

Under the circumstance, it was expected that the DMDK would announce its alliance with the ruling party on Friday. The expectations increased when Vijayakant along with his party Deputy Secretary L K Sudhish visited the party head office in Koyambedu. They held a meeting with important party functionaries on the issue of alliance. On hearing the news of Vijayakant visiting the party office, several supporters thronged the place expecting the official announcement. Much to their disappointment, however, both Vijayakant and Sudhish left the office without making any announcement.

When contacted, party sources said that its top brass had decided to align with the AIADMK and the same was conveyed to its leadership. The meeting was held with important party functionaries after confirming the alliance.

“It was decided to demand four seats for the upcoming Parliamentary elections and a Rajya Sabha seat at the meeting. A list of four preferred constituencies was then sent to the AIADMK office for approval,” said sources, adding that the alliance would be announced officially after the list is approved.

With Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam participating in the Prime Minister’s event in Kanniyakumari, a decision on the alliance is expectedto be announced only bySunday.
