It all started around 5.30 pm on Tuesday, when the police control room received a call. The man on the other end claimed that he overheard his wife Munni talking on the phone that there would be a bomb blast at Chennai Central on Wednesday.

Constable Malarvizhi who attended the call immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force and a search operation was launched at Chennai Central. She also alerted the Teynampet police station as the call was made from their jurisdiction. Constable Thavamani, who was on duty, rushed to the address from where the call was made from along with an Armed Reserve police official and secured Saravanan.

Interrogation revealed that Saravanan, a house painter by profession, was under the influence of alcohol when he made the call. He told the police that his wife Munni quarrelled with him often and that he made the bomb threat call to take revenge on her. The police said that Munni did not know about the call.

The police arrested Saravanan and remanded him in judicial custody. The couple has two sons and a daughter.

Meanwhile, confusion prevailed at RPF control room when caller ID showed the origin of the call as General Railway Police (GRP). But GRP clarified that there was no one by the name of Malarvizhi attached with them. Later, the police said that it could be a technical glitch of the server, which is managed by a third party.
