    Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy sworn in as HC judge

    The Madras High Court has got a new judge with Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy being sworn in on Friday. The Central government had notified his appointment as an Additional Judge of the High Court for a two-year term earlier this week.

    Chief Justice VK Tahilramani administered the oath of office at a brief function participated by members of the bar and the bench. With his appointment, the strength of judges increased to 60 against the sanctioned strength of 75. However, with the collegium reiterating the proposal to transfer Justice MV Muralidharan to the Manipur High Court the strength of judges is set to revert back to 59 judges.


    Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy had obtained his bachelor’s degree in law from the Madras Law College in 1990. Following this, he had registered in the bar the same year. Thereafter, in 1992 he obtained his master’s law degree in Constitutional Law and International Law.


    In 1993, he joined the chambers of Senior Counsel Arvind Datar and worked there until 1998. In 2001, he joined Dua Associates as a partner. He has also acted as counsel for many public sector undertakings and multinational companies. His areas of work, including mining law, amalgamations and oppression and mismanagement petitions under the Companies Act, suits, writ petitions and arbitration. Advocate General Vijay Narayan who welcomed the gathering said, “I am sure Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy will be an asset to the Madras High Court. I can say with utmost confidence that he would make a significant contribution to the cause of administration of justice by maintaining the traditions of this hallowed institution.”


    Madras High Court Advocates Association Vice-president, R Sudha, Madras Bar Association, Secretary, VR Kamalanathan, Women Lawyers Association president V Nalini and Law Association president L Senguttavan offeredfelicitations.
