Police said the priest, identified as Baskaran, a resident of Valasayur near Salem, left home on Sunday. He was found dead with his neck slit near a private school on the Harur Main Road on Tuesday morning.

On receiving information, the Veeranam police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Salem Government Hospital for post-mortem.  Inquiries revealed that Baskaran was involved in a chit fund business. The police, who have registered a case, suspect that he could have been murdered over a money dispute. Further inquiries are on.

In another incident, an unidentified man aged between 30 and 35 years was found dead with his head smashed with a stone near Tirupur old bus stand. As the body was found near a Tasmac shop, police suspect that he might have been killed in a fight among tipplers.  “The identity of the deceased is being ascertained. We have secured around ten people for the inquiry,” said a cop attached to the Tirupur South Police.
