Vellore Aavin to make estimated profit by end of Feb, Chennai’s need can be a reason
The sustained efforts by the officials of Vellore-Tiruvannamalai Districts’ Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (Vellore Aavin), has resulted in the milk major anticipating the estimated profit, one month ahead of schedule, by the end of February.
Vellore
This surge in income follows after the Chennai based Cooperative Milk Producers Federation decided to lift up to 2 lakh litre of milk daily from the Vellore union. Adding to this, the Krishnagiri district cooperative milk union has also requested the Vellore union to supply 45,000 litre of milk on a daily basis for the conversion of milk into milk products, officials said.
Both the advancements have enabled most of the 3.70 lakh litre daily milk procurement in the district, being used up.
The local sales too have improved almost 2000 litre more than normal, touching 71, 000 litre daily, officials said. The remaining 44,000 litre is left for the conversion of milk into ghee daily, officials averred.
On increasing therevenue of Aavin,General manager V Kothandaraman said, “If we are allowed to set up kiosks in all government offices in the district, the sale of milk and milk products will easily cross a profit mark of Rs 1 crore per month.” Stating his request to Vellore Collector SA Raman for setting up kiosks, Kothandaraman said that on date only two or three government offices in the district had responded.
Recently the town’s lone milk parlour after a dip in sale, has recently started selling around 600 litre milk daily, in addition to the sales of daily milk products averaging to Rs 50,000. “We are hopeful about the increase in the milk sales by another 400 litre and the sales of milk product by another Rs 20,000 in this parlour shortly,” Kothandaraman said.
Based on the success of the Vellore parlour, “Efforts are made to rejuvenate the Aavin parlours at Ambur and Sumaithangi near Vellore, on the same lines,” he added.
Milk farmers have welcomed the Vellore dairy’s current profit oriented moves as it comes after years of protests conducted by the union. The members of theunion anticipate timely pay after a surge in the profit, sources said.
