Miscreants hurl stones at Shatabdi Express
Unidentified persons hurled stones at the Coimbatore-Chennai Shatabdi Express when it was passing through the Peelamadu-Irugur section on Monday.
Coimbatore
The incident, which took place around 3.20 pm, resulted in window panes of an AC coach getting damaged. None of the passengers suffered injuries. Miscreants also pelted stones at the Chennai-bound Kovai Express near Peelamedu. The incident, however, did not cause any damage to the train.
Sources said the stretch has of late gained notoriety for stone pelting incidents targeting passengers. Such incidents have been reported even during the day time. A travelling ticket examiner (TTE) onboard the Kannur-Yeshwanthpur Express was injured near Peelamedu railway station last October, while a 20-year-old youth suffered a severe head injury when he was hit a by stone last August.
“Police personnel in plain clothes have been deployed to patrol the stretch round the clock to prevent anti-social elements from hurling stones at the trains passing by,” said a senior railway official.
