Captain to decide on alliance within 10 days: Premalatha
Actor- turned-politician and founder of DMDK Vijayakant, who underwent treatment in the US, returned to Chennai on Saturday and was offered a rousing reception by the party cadre at the airport here.

“Vijayakant will take a decision on an alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections within ten days. Various political parties are in touch with our party. Captain (Vijayakant) will announce the final decision after holding talks with party cadre,” DMDK treasurer Premalatha Vijayakant told reporters.
“Our leader has returned after a successful treatment in the US and his health has improved. He will decide the party’s alliance soon,” said Premalatha. To a query on party workers becoming anxious due to the delay in Vijayakant’s arrival, Premalatha explained that her husband travelled for more than 25 hours and had a jet lag. “He took a brief rest at the lounge and had breakfast at the airport. He then underwent a routine heath check-up. This caused some delay in his arrival,” Premalatha said.
Meanwhile, a senior AIADMK leader said an uncertainty prevails over both the PMK and DMDK in terms of their decision on forging alliances.
“It is still not clear about the PMK and the DMDK on which party they would support. It looks that the parties are weighing the options on table,” the leader said.
“The DMDK may be part of the AIADMK- BJP alliance, but the PMK is still negotiating with both the DMK and the AIADMK. Union Minister and State BJP election in-charge Piyush Goyal will again meet our leaders for the next round of poll talks on Monday,” the former legislator told DT Next.
It may be noted that AIADMK joint convenor R Vaithilingam last week confirmed that both the PMK and DMDK have not stated their preference but are in touch with the ruling AIADMK for an alliance.
