Padma (80), a resident of Chennai’s Royapettah area, wanted to see Nalini, who is on an indefinite fast along with her husband, also a life convict in the same case.

Official sources said that permission was denied to Padma as Nalini’s indefinite fast without the sanction of jail officials had resulted in her perks, including seeing visitors, being withdrawn. Padma left the jail premises after being told that she would not be able to see Nalini.

Interacting with reporters outside, Padma said she was sad that she was unable to see her daughter, whose plight she had come to know through the visual media.

“I wanted to ask Nalini to give up her fast as I had planned to meet to CM Edappadi K Palaniswami and Governor Banwarilal Purohit to plead for the release of all the seven convicts languishing in jail for over 27 years.”

“However, as I was not allowed to meet my daughter, I am going back with sadness,” Padma added.
