Ariyalur village mourns loss of native in Pulwama
A pall of gloom descended on Karkudi village near T-Pazhur in Ariyalur district on Friday, as news came in of the demise of one of its natives, a CRPF jawan, in Thursday’s terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

C Sivachandran (38), the second son of Chinnaiyyan and Singaravalli, lost his life along with over 40 other CRPF jawans in the incident.
Having joined the central force in 2010, Sivachandran married Gandhimathi from the same village in 2014. They have a two-year-old son Sivamuniyan.
Sivachandran visited Karkudi on a leave in the month of January ahead of Pongal, before re-joining duty on February 9. Sivachandran’s elder brother Selvendran was electrocuted at Koyambedu market in Chennai last year.
Family members, who received information about Sivachandran’s demise, said the entire village is mourning the loss.
Gandhimathi, who is yet to recover from the shock, told reporters that she spoke to her husband on Wednesday night. “He informed me that he was joining the same camp where he was posted earlier,” she said.
Scores of people from nearby places, social activists, members of various outfits, besides representatives of political parties thronged his house and consoled the family members.
Rajini condemns attack
Actor-politician Rajinikanth on Friday strongly condemned the Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and said time has come to put an end to such barbaric acts.
Rajini tweeted: “I strongly condemn the unpardonable violence of the terrorists at Pulwama in Kashmir.”
“Enough is enough...! Time has come to put an end to all these barbaric acts,” he said. “My heart goes out to the families of the jawans who lost their lives and are injured,” Rajini said, adding: “To those brave hearts departed...may their souls rest in peace.”
