SC order on Sterlite next week: Collector
Against a backdrop of heavy police presence in Thoothukudi, its Collector Sandeep Nanduri said that the final verdict on the Sterlite case in the Supreme Court is not in the offing, and that it could be out in the next week or even after that.

Since both the parties would file their written submissions before the Supreme Court on Monday, the court would consider it and could later pass the judgement, the Collector said, while talking to reporters on Wednesday.Â
Security measures from the Department of Police had been heightened at sensitive locations including Collectorate and important junctions such as VVD signal point and Sipcot area since May 22, when the anti-Sterlite protest in Thoothukudi turned violent. There was a misconception among local people that police personnel were deployed over early outcome of the verdict in the Sterlite case. Â
In view of this, the Collector asked people not to panic and told them that the police personnel were there only for public security, besides, the deployment of police personnel in large numbers in Thoothukudi could either be made for election duty or any training programme. He also said that there is no Law and Order situation in Thoothukudi.Â
