Addressing reporters here, the legislature wing leader of the AIADMK A Anbalagan suggested that a committee of legislators under TransportMinister’s chairmanship should be formed to go into the issue and finalise modalities to implement helmet rule.
He claimed that the turf war between Lt Governor Kiran Bedi and Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on enforcement of the rule was causingconfusion among the public.
“It is indeed amusing that the Director General of Police, facing pressure and intimidation from the Lt Governor issued a statement onFebruary 9 that helmet rule would be enforced in Puducherry from Feb 11,” he said.
However, the CM had on February 10 said, “the police should adopt a go slow attitude and not impose fine without generating awareness among the public.”
