Fasting Nalini shifted to prison hospital
Nalini, one of the convicts in the assassination case of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and lodged in Vellore Central Prison, who was on a fast for the past two days, was shifted to the hospital inside the prison premises after her condition worsened on Monday night.
Vellore
According to jail officials, Nalini began a fast protest from Friday in support of her jailed husband Murugan’s demand for release. Murugan started the fast protest two days prior to Nalini.
Sources said that Nalini was shifted to the prison hospital after her condition weakened on Monday. “The woman convict was denied all jail privileges, including weekly visits by relatives and phone calls to those outside the prison, as she went on fast despite denial of permission by officials,” sources said.
Decision on Murugan
Asked if a similar action was taken against Murugan in the male prison block, jail officials said the final call would be taken by jail superintendent S Andal.
When this correspondent tried to contact the jail superintendent over phone, there was no response.
