Red sanders worth Rs 1 crore seized
Five people were arrested for transporting red sander logs worth Rs 1 crore near Katpadi on Monday. The red sander logs and the two vehicles used by the culprits kept in their possession were also seized.

A special police team was on the lookout for Amanullah (32), who was wanted in many past red sander cases. When Amanullah, a resident of Karasamangalam, was coming to Katpadi on a two-wheeler, the team intercepted him for inquiries. In an unexpected development, a mini-lorry that was following Amanullah’s vehicle was signaled to stop by the police team.Â
When the team members checked vehicle, they were shocked find 1.75 tonnes of red sander logs being smuggled. Based on the interrogation with the four persons, who were apprehended from the lorry, a search was conducted at Amanullah’s house. During the searches the team found around 3.30 tonnes of red sander logs that were hidden in Amanullah’s house. The entire load was seized. Police also seized the two-wheeler of Amanullah, the mini lorry along with the red sanders logs.Â
The four arrested were identified as Mehboob Basha (20), Jothis (25) and Fairoz (21) all of Karasamangalm and Aslam (28) all residents of Gudiyattam.
 Police said that the red sanders were being smuggled from the Seshachalam reserve forest in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
The seized goods were taken to the Latheri police station and was later handed over to the Forest Department by the officers.
