    Highlights of Tamil Nadu budget 2019-20

    The Annual budget for 2019-20 was presented by Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who holds the Finance Ministry.

    Aiming to woo voters ahead of the Lok sabha election, Edappadi K Palaniswami-led Tamil Nadu government came out with the populist announcement. TN deputy Chief Minister & Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam presented the annual budget for 2019.

    State government's revenue is Rs 1.97 lakh crore. Expenditure is Rs 2.12 lakh crore.

    The Finance Minister started his budget speech with Thirukural.

    The first session of the Assembly for the year began on January 2 with the customary address of Governor Banwarilal Purohit to the House. The Opposition parties had boycotted his address.

    A gift hamper to every family (including Rs 1,000 cash component) with a ration card for the harvest festival of Pongal (in January) was among the announcements he had made.
