Addressing newspersons here, he said: “The unemployment levels has increased to a massive 6.1 per cent, which is the highest in the last 45 years. There is an urgent need to create more employment opportunities. An expert committee must be formed to provide a solution to this problem.”
The shadow budget put forth by the PMK recommends the government to provide an unemployment allowance for youngsters.
“The government should provide an allowance of Rs 5,000 to unemployed post-graduates, Rs 4,000 to graduates, Rs 3,000 to those who have completed Class 12, Rs 2,000 for SSLC pass-outs and Rs 1,000 for those who failed in SSLC,” said Ramadoss.
The PMK leader also demanded the State government provide Rs 2,500 to every family below the poverty line. He also urged the setting up of a commission, headed by an eminent economist, to eradicate poverty.
Ramadoss said the Central government had announced that it would give Rs 6,000 per annum for small scale farmers having land less than two acres, but the State government should increase the amount to Rs 10,000 per acre as capital subsidy.
The shadow budget predicts that the revenue will increase by Rs 1.90 lakh crore from the previous year’s revenue of Rs 4.21 lakh crore. It also predicts that there will be a surplus of Rs 69,823 crore, and the deficit would reduce to Rs 6,789 crore.
