Addressing reporters in Chennai, Thirumavalavan said, “The decision to stay away from the alliance which has fascist parties such as the PMK and the BJP was taken long before the alliance talks commenced.”

As the Parliamentary elections are scheduled in May, the talk on alliance formation is doing rounds in political circles. PMK, a key alliance partner, is holding talks with major Dravidian parties and it was speculated that the PMK may align with the DMK. The speculation had caused disturbance in the VCK, as the Dalit party is still part of the DMK alliance. When asked about it, Thirumavalavan said that the PMK may hold talks with both the DMK and the AIADMK, “but it will form alliance with the AIADMK.”

“There is little chance that the DMK will choose the PMK as alliance partner as it will gain nothing out of an alliance with the PMK. We are still in talks with the DMK and alliance will be decided after confirming the number of seats and the preferred constituencies,” said Thirumavalavan.

When asked why he is opposing the PMK in their camp, Thirumavalavan said PMK founder Ramadoss had compared slain Dalit youth Ilavarasan’s case with love jihad and the VCK will not align with it.
