While Alagiri and the four working presidents have camped in the capital to thank AICC for entrusting responsibility on them, Thirunavukkarasar has aired grievances with the high command, which had ‘consoled’ him by promising a decent reward in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

Alagiri and the four newly appointed working presidents on Monday met Congress president Rahul Gandhi and the party general secretary in-charge of Tamil Nadu Mukul Wasnik in the capital.

Alagiri is expected to assume the office of TNCC chief on February 7 and hold a consultation with the party leaders on the ensuing Lok Sabha elections here the same day.

Ironically, immediate past TNCC president Thirunavukkarasar, who had also met the national bosses, denied former union minister P Chidambaram’s hand in the organisational shake up in the state Congress helm.

Encountered by reporters at the party national headquarters Thirunavukkarasar described Chidambaram as his friend and said that he respects the decision of the high command and he would continue to discharge his duty in the party. Asked about his plans to contest in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, which, sources say, has been promised to him, Thirunavukkarasar said that he would contest if Rahul Gandhi wants him to, otherwise he would not. Describing his two-and-half year stint at TNCC helm as achievement, a visibly unhappy Thirunavukkarasar, however, did not hide his disappointment when he admitted that he was unhappy only till he met Rahul Gandhi.
