BJP biggies to descend on Tamil Nadu for poll tour in February
Besides the back-to-back visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tirupur and Kanniyakumari on February 10 and 19, the BJP has decided to add more muscle to the State BJP unit with the visit of senior party leaders from across the country, including Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Nirmala Sitharaman.

The BJP headquarters has formulated a month-long programme for the party functionaries to strengthen the party in Tamil Nadu. Under this schedule, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and his Haryana counterpart Manoharlal Khattar will visit Tenkasi, Tiruneveli, Kanniyakumari, Cuddalore and Chidambaram constituencies. The leaders will attend Sakthi Kendra programmes and will discuss issues related to the farmers and women.
Union Minister for Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari will visit Chennai, Sriperumbudur, Thanjavur and Tiruchy parliamentary constituencies on February 3 and 15. He will hold talks with farmers, BJP workers, intellectuals and industrialists, and also address press conferences.
BJP president Amit Shah will tour Salem, Karur, Namakkal and Erode districts on February 14, BJP sources said. Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman will focus on Coimbatore, The Nilgiris and Tirupur lok sabha seats. Defence Minister Sitharaman will also tour Tirupur, Coimbatore and Pollachi constituencies and hold programmes on industrial development in western Tamil Nadu, BJP sources said.
Earlier in the day, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan said that the state will witness an upbeat mood as Prime Minister Modi will address two public meetings in the State. The State BJP is all geared up for the PM’s visit.
Commenting about the minimum income guarantee scheme for the poor promised by the Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Radhakrishnan said that the Congress was trying to misguide the public ahead of the polls. To garner votes, the Congress has jumped in to false promises, he said.
He said that the minimum guarantee scheme is practically not feasible, and the public will not accept the fake promises given the congress. After looting the country for over six decades, the Congress is now involved in petty politics, he said.
The party had also been misguiding the public on the 10 per cent reservation mooted by the BJP to help the poor coming under the unreserved class, he added.
