Duo drowns during birthday bash in Erode

The deceased were identified as Bagavathy Raja (21) and Muthukumaresan (21), both from Annur. The two had gone to Kasipalayam near Gobichettipalayam to celebrate the birthday of one of their friends when the incident occurred.

“A group of eight including four girls had gone to one of their friend’s house in Gobichettipalayam. They then decided to celebrate their friend Jawahar’s birthday by cutting a cake on the banks of Thadapalli river at Kasipalayam,” police said.

Suddenly, Bagavathy Raja and Muthukumaresan slipped and fell into the river. On seeing the duo drowning, their friend Hari Prasad jumped into the gushing waters to rescue them. However, he too was swept away in the strong current. On hearing their loud cries, the locals started rescue operation, but they could save Hari Prasad only.

On information, rescue personnel arrived and retrieved the bodies of the two after conducting a search. The bodies were sent for post mortem at Gobichettipalayam government hospital. Kadathur police have registered a case.
