The deceased were identified as Perumal (16) from Lal Bahadur Shastri Street in Periyathopu and Siva (15) from Munuswami Street, said police. An investigation revealed that both the minors were riding under the influence of alcohol.

According to the police, Perumal and Siva were riding a motorcycle along with their friend Dinesh (16) when the accident occurred at Kondapalayam on Sunday.

While Perumal and Siva died on the spot, Dinesh was severely injured and was rushed to a primary health centre nearby. Later, he was transferred to the Government Stanley Hospital in Chennai.

“Perumal was driving the two-wheeler while Siva and Dinesh were riding pillion. During investigation, we came to know that all the three victims were intoxicated and were riding in a rash manner,” a police officer attached to the Minjur police station said.

“Perumal lost control of the vehicle and all three of them came crashing to the ground. The rider and Siva sustained head injuries and died on the spot,” he added.

Police also confirmed that neither of the students were wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Their bodies were taken to Minjur government hospital for post-mortem examination. Minjur police have registered a case and efforts are on to track the owner of the two-wheeler.
