    Tasmac staff shot at during robbery attempt in T’malai

    A robbery attempt, during which some unidentified miscreants opened fire at two Tasmac employees in Tiruvannamalai district on Friday night, has sent shock waves among the Corporation staff working in the rural areas.

    The incident occurred at a Tasmac liquor outlet at Perumuttom in the Chengam area on Friday night.


    The injured employees, supervisor Shanmugam (40) and salesman Lakshmanan (40), had shut the liquor shop at 10 pm on Friday and were about to leave with the day’s collection, which amounted to Rs 3 lakh, when the robbers, with their faces covered, arrived on the spot on a two-wheeler.


    On arrival, the robbers fired in the air, seeing which, Shanmugam took to his heels with the cash in his hand. The robbers shot him in his leg, however, Shanmugam managed to escape. Thereafter, the culprits turned to Lakshmanan. They assaulted him and forced him to reopen the shop. However, finding no cash inside the shop, the robbers fled the scene.


    Meanwhile, an injured Shanmugam informed the Chengam police, following which, they visited the shop and admitted the two injured employees in Chengam government hospital. From there, they were further referred to the Tiruvannamalai government medical college hospital.


    On Saturday, Tiruvannamalai SP MR Sibi Chakravarthy visited the shop and two bullet cartridges were recovered from the crime scene. Chengam police have registered a case in this connectionand have initiated investigation to find whether the two robbers hailed from a different state.
