Ambur locals block road, demand road over bridge
More than 80 residents blocked traffic plying on the underpass at Reddythoppu, which connects two different parts of Ambur, on Friday demanding the construction of a long-pending road over bridge.
Vellore
The underpass is narrow and caters to two-wheelers and pedestrians. According to residents, the facility gets flooded during rainy season. Crossing it becomes dangerous due to the potholes, they said.
The residents approached local body officials and railway officials with their long-pending demand of a road over bridge to replace the underpass, following which the then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa sanctioned Rs 30 crore for the project in 2011.
However, as no work has been done till now, locals blocked the underpass with two-wheelers on Friday. On receiving information, Ambur town police and local body officials rushed to the spot and held talks with the agitators. The latter gave up their protest only upon receiving assurance that the work would commence soon.
