10 per cent quota for poor done hastily: Yechury

While talking to reporters in Madurai on Wednesday, Yechury questioned, “While government jobs are declining, privatisationof all government sectors have been increased, as many governmentsectors were being outsourced. With all these factors in place, howcould the reservation serve its purpose?” adding, “Who else could benefit from such reservation without laying standards and how would the government define this concept?” he raised.

Citing these, he said the CPI (M) in Parliament sought to discuss on all these aspects in the House and moved an amendment saying that reservation must be extended along with SC/ST and OBC to the private sector also.

“But the Central government did not accept this since Prime Minister Narendra Modi was interested in encouraging the private sector. However, the CPI (M) would continue to struggle to bring in private sector into the domain of the existing reservation system,” he added.

Further criticising the BJP led government, he said it was tainted by a fresh scandal that 56 percent of government’s money was spent on girl child or student for publicity of schemes. Unfortunately, government funds were spent for its own self publicity.

Citing that the BJP was responsible for destruction of Indian economy after implementing demonetisation policy and GST rollout, he said, “The BJP and its allies must be defeated in the upcomingLok Sabha elections in 2019 for the sake of India and people. Economic burdens were mounting day by day and farmers, who are in distress, had been committing suicides, continuously and youths were aimlessly wandering since employment was declining.”

“The middle class is being bombarded by a regular hike in price of petroleum products and other essential commodities. People should have been moved forward in economic consolidation, but nothing happened. Now, Mehul Choksi, the loan defaulter, who is a so called friend of Modi, could not be prosecuted as per Indian law since he gave up his passport,” he questioned.

He also charged the Centre for destroying the unity of people in the name of religious sentiments and playing a worst vote bank politics by trying to consolidate the Hindutva communal vote bank.
