Mekedatu dam: SC grants TN government four weeks to file response

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry government moved the Supreme Court against the approval of Central Water Commission (CWC) allowing Karnataka government to prepare detailed project report on Mekedatu dam. While hearing Tamil Nadu's petition on Tuesday, the Supreme Court granted four weeks time to Tamil Nadu Government to file its response in this regard.

The AIADMK and the DMK were agitating in both Houses of Parliament pressing for scrapping of the proposed dam project.

Earlier in May, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswami met Prime Minister Modi and sought his support to implement the project.

It is expected that the Karnataka government would soon submit the detailed project report (DPR) as they have obtained the Central Water Commission's approval for their Rs 5,900 crore project.
