Thambidurai, who has been speaking against the BJP, was in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts on Saturday to visit the temples in Thirucherai, Thirunaraiyur and Thirupampuram along with his wife and children.

Speaking on the sidelines of the temple visits, Thambidurai told reporters that the Centre had not supported the state in any development works and also during natural disasters and no project brought out by the Centre had helped Tamil Nadu in any way.

“We have been opposing the GST implementation from the beginning and also the Cauvery water dispute, the BJP-led Centre had betrayed Tamil Nadu and the AIADMK MPs who had voiced against the Centre’s stand on Cauvery dispute have been suspended,” Thambidurai pointed out.

He reiterated that the AIADMK MPs would continue to voice against the construction of Mekedatu dam across the Cauvery till the Centre intervenes and instructs Karnataka to withdraw the plan. Strongly criticising the activities of the BJP, Thambidurai said, the BJP is planning to enslave AIADMK. “They (BJP) should change their attitude otherwise, they will pay for it,” he cautioned.

He stressed that the party will continue to oppose the 10 per cent reservation to the economically weak other caste people.

Meanwhile, he asked the BJP not to propagate that the Deputy Speaker post has been given to the AIADMK only by the support of the BJP. “It a general practice to give the post of Deputy Speaker to one of the opposition parties. It was granted to me on that criterion,” he stressed.

He reiterated that the AIADMK will never have ties with the BJP and at the same time, the party will win all the 40 seats as the people are only with the AIADMK.
